Structure of an Atom by jbeller on 01-13-2016
Do you know how many protons, neutrons, and electrons Oxygen has?
No I don't!
Well, the number of protons and electrons is determined by the atomic number! Since Oxygen has an atomic number of 8, oxygen has 8 protons and 8 electrons.
So how do you know how many neutrons Oxygen has?
To determine the number of neutrons, you subtract the atomic mass and the atomic number.
So, since oxygen has an atomic mass of 16 and an atomic number of 8... you have 16-8. Oxygen has 8 Neutrons!
